WELLING VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
A State Licensed First Responder Agency

We are a volunteer fire department with 18 firefighters, and 3 stations. We have 7 trucks (4 - pumpers, 1 – tanker, 2 - brush trucks). We are located in the eastern part of Cherokee County, covering 199 square miles in an area east of the Illinois River to the Adair County line on Highways 100, 51 and 62. The Welling Volunteer Fire Department has earned an ISO Class 8 rating. This has lowered the home insurance costs for all of the residents of our coverage area.
In addition to providing fire protection and vehicle rescue, we provide a First Responder service in cooperation with the two county ambulance services, having 1 Paramedic and 12 First Responders.

We rely on funding generated by our membership dues and our fund-raisers throughout the year, as well as some monies from the County and the State.

Our newest pumper was obtained from New Caney, Texas, is a 1984 Pierce Arrow.  It can pump 1750 gpm from a 1,000 gallon on board tank.  This apparatus boasts many features such as a remote controlled lighting system that can light up any scene to the same as daylight.  We have had it for only three months and it is  out on most calls.
