COOKSON VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
A State Licensed First Responder Agency
We are a volunteer fire department with 14 firefighters, 1 station and we are in the process of adding 4 additional bays starting with the dirt work the beginning of January. We have 5 trucks (1 - 1000/1500 pumper, 1 – 250/2800 tanker, 1 – 500/4800 tanker, and 1 rescue with 500/500/20 foam brush truck). We are located in the southern part of Cherokee County, covering an area from the Illinois River on Highway 82 south to Sixshooter Road, then from the Cherokee/Adair County line on Highway 100 to the east side of Lake Tenkiller.
The Cookson Volunteer Fire Department has earned an ISO Class 8 rating. This has lowered the home insurance costs for all of the residents of our coverage area. If you or your insurance company have any questions on this please call the numbers listed below.

In addition to providing fire protection and auto rescue, we provide a First Responder service in cooperation with the two county ambulance services, having 3 EMT’s (1 Basic & 2 Intermediates) with 4 First Responders.

We rely on funding generated by our membership dues and our fund-raisers throughout the year, as well as some monies from the County and the State.
